Welcome to the Healthy Messages for Healthy Kids Parent Survey

Kia ora,

Thank you for your interest in participating in Healthy Messages for Healthy Kids.

We aim to understand how parents/caregivers/whānau and kids want to have health messages communicated to them so we can develop an educational resource for health professionals working in the community. Health professionals are people like GPs, practice nurses, school counsellors, dentists, pharmacists, speech therapists, psychologists, and physiotherapists. When we use the term “health messages” we mean any form of communication about health, examples include the results of medical tests, and advice about staying well (such as personal hygiene, sleep, exercise or nutrition advice).

Below is a short summary of the process for this study. Full details are the in the Participant Information Sheet – available [here (hyperlink to download full PIS)].

Parents, caregivers and whānau of children aged 7 – 12 years are asked to complete this online survey. It will take about 20-30 minutes. The following topics will be covered in this survey:
- what does being healthy mean to your child,
 - your experiences of health professionals talking to your child about their health
 - what you think health professionals could do to communicate health messages to children better.

There is a second part of this study where we will ask kids (aged 7 – 12 years) similar questions as we are asking in this survey – but we will do it as an interview over the phone or online. If you are interested in knowing more about how your child can participate in the second part of this study details will be provided at the end of this survey. There is no obligation for your child to participate and you may complete just this online survey.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Parent/caregiver/whānau member who is 18+ years
- Taking care of a child who is currently aged 7 – 12 years
- Both Parent/caregiver/whānau and child must be living in Aotearoa New Zealand
